WT Rocks the Hurricane Relief Fundraiser!

Friday, October 13, 2017

In response to the CAS (Connecticut Association of Schools) request of each of its member schools to raise up to $353 to help schools in areas hit by the recent hurricanes, Windham Tech Student Council sponsored two Dress Down Days. On either October 6th and/or October 13th students who donated a minimum of $3 were permitted to leave their school uniform at home and wear their favorite everyday clothing.

With just under 500 students in the whole school and less than half of them being able to dress out of uniform each dress down day, WTHS far exceeded the $353 suggested donation by the CAS with an overall donation of $1,630.78. Without hesitation students donated beyond the minimum $3, dropping $5, $10, and $20 bills  and not asking for change. Many students stated they felt personally connected to the relief efforts as they have family in areas affected by the hurricanes.

This benevolence was further supported by our faculty and staff who donated as well each dress down day, contributing over $300 to the overall donation.

This donation will be sent to the CAS Hurricane Heroes Relief Fund, which in turn will be matched by the Brother’s Brother Foundation (BBF) a gift-in-kind charity that focuses on medical and educational needs around the world.

Windham Tech is honored to be a part of this statewide effort.
